Social Stratification Survey

Good day! I am Jerome C. Pamintuan, 2nd year student at the Technological Institute of the Philippines-Manila taking up Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Well, this is not a part of my thesis nor a term paper. I just made this blog entry to ask you questions and to know your perceptions about the present society.

Well, do you know anything about social stratification?

(Social) stratification: ranking some individuals and groups as more deserving than others; from this a social hierarchy is formed which is a set of ranked statuses from highest to lowest. (The word social is in parentheses because in sociology it is often presumed you are referring to the social, i.e. groups of people interacting together rather than one individual by themselves.) (http://husky1.stmarys.ca/~evanderveen/wvdv/Class_relations/social_stratification.htm)

For better understanding, an example of social stratification is the caste system of India and in the Philippines it is well-known as the division between the elite, middle and low classes.

Now that I have given you a bird's eye view, please feel free to answer the questions below:

1. Why do you think social stratification exist?
2. As an individual from the 21st century or as a student, what can you do to lessen the issue of social stratification?
3. Give at least 3 benefits of social stratification in your own point of view.

You can post your answers here(if and only if you have an account) or pm me through facebook or message me via twitter.

Thank you.
